North Carolina Scholarship Online now live!

July 24, 2014

Economic Growth and Measurement

North Carolina Scholarship Online has now launched on UPSO! The University of North Carolina Press is the seventeenth partner press to join UPSO’s ever-growing ranks of prestigious academic publishers, and now takes UPSO to over 16,000 online books.

The University of North Carolina Press is the oldest university press in the South and one of the oldest in the country. Founded in 1922, the Press is the creation of that same distinguished group of educators and civic leaders who were instrumental in transforming the University of North Carolina from a struggling college with a few associated professional schools into a major international university. The purpose of the Press, as stated in its charter, is "to promote generally, by publishing deserving works, the advancement of the arts and sciences and the development of literature". This is still very much the Press's mission, as is more than evident with the titles now live on North Carolina Scholarship Online.

North Carolina Scholarship Online (NCSO) makes over 300 key UNC titles available online in XML format on one single, user-friendly, state-of-the-art platform for the first time.  NCSO has added content to eleven University Press Scholarship Online subjects, including History, Literature, and Political Science, and have brought a brand new 'Native American Studies' subdiscipline to UPSO's 'Society and Culture' subject.

To celebrate the launch of North Carolina Scholarship Online, we’ve made a selection of chapters from some of the press's key titles free and available for one month, including a chapter from Twelve Years a Slave, Solmon Northup's harrowing account of slavery, which was made into an Oscar-winning film last year.
