The colonial process has made the Mineral Estate into another hazardous entanglement, instilling fears and doubts about the expansion of Osage governance. This chapter investigates the colonial entanglement created by the Osage Mineral Estate trust. By looking at its impact on both the writing and the implementation of the 2006 Osage Constitution, the chapter sheds light on why some Osage felt more comfortable leaving Osage affairs in the hands of non-Osage.
