This chapter describes the increasing involvement of the Grimké sisters in the abolitionist movement in Philadelphia. Angela attended antislavery meetings before Sarah became involved. Despite the excitement of new ideas and new activities, these were troubled months for Angelina. Although neither of the sisters had personally owned a slave since their girlhood, their slaveholding past seemed to weigh heavily on them.
