This chapter describes how Ward's brigade held Devil's Den against the opening assaults of Robertson and Benning. De Trobriand's brigade plus the 115th Pennsylvania and Eighth New Jersey regiments held the wall along the south side of the Wheatfield and the south slope of the stony hill. Anderson's brigade advanced through Rose's Woods to attack Ward's right and de Trobriand, while Benning and Robertson attacked Ward's left.
