This chapter details events in Sidney Poitier's life from 1978–2002. These include Poitier's signing of a four-year deal with Columbia Pictures to write, direct, and/or act in movies and television programs in December 1978; his direction of the films Stir Crazy, Hanky Panky, and Fast Forward; his roles in the films Little Nikita and Shoot to Kill; his receipt of various awards in the 1980s and 1990s honoring his work; and the release of his second memoir, The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography in 2000.
