This part of the book presents the second half of the anthology of letters written by German immigrants in the United States to friends and family in Germany during the American Civil War. The letters in this section are organized geographically by state to keep writers from Union, border, and Confederate areas together. It includes the writings of soldiers and civilians, both men and women, from the north and the south.
