The Introduction uses the experiences of John Piatt, who entered the army with his father early in the Revolution, to explain how and why boys served as soldiers. It reviews in general and with specific terms the recruitment process. It also explains how this history of boys was created from a great variety of documentary sources.
North Carolina Scholarship Online requires a subscription or purchase to access the full text of books within the service. Public users can however freely search the site and view the abstracts and keywords for each book and chapter.
