The Mike Seeger Legacy

(p.169) 7 The Mike Seeger Legacy
Music from the True Vine

Bill C. Malone

University of North Carolina Press

This chapter discusses Mike Seeger's life-long devotion to old-time music. Mike and the New City Ramblers gave a voice to the southern working people through music. Their determination to remain authentic to their style of performance says a great deal about what Mike stood for. Mike was an inspiration to young musicians who wanted to play old-time music. His legacy continues in the music arduously performed by many young musicians in folk festivals all across the United States. His dream to propagate and keep the “roots” of American folk music alive has been fulfilled through his single-minded dogged determination.
