This chapter focuses on the manner in which Ibn Άrabī brings the reader into a different realm of imagining gender by presenting antinomian perspectives on the feminine, sexuality, and women. It begins by exploring Ibn Άrabī's notions of the divine feminine and the view that God is most perfectly witnessed in women. The chapter also examines his ideas on sex and sexual intimacy, and how such experiences are linked to the knowledge of God. Finally, it examines Ibn Άrabī's alternative narratives of creation, including Jesus's birth from the Virgin Mary, that further undermine dominant gender norms.
