The Master of Short Forms
The Master of Short Forms
García Márquez was in his own right a master of the short story even before his novel came out. His narratives can be likened to works of Chekhov, Joyce, and Alice Munro. García Márquez cites his primary inspiration in story writing as Hemingway. These short stories fall into either magical or realistic but have the same element, which is the climate of his world. Three of García Márquez's short stories are analyzed in this chapter, namely Tuesday Siesta, One Day after Saturday, and Big Mama's Funeral.
