This chapter discusses questions of exceptionalism and normativity, and reviews the major theoretical questions posed. Barcelona lawyers, like those of any city, were not without their peculiarities—ideal types are easier to manufacture than to find. The study of the Barcelona bar, however, offers a fine perspective on the evolution of a profession in western Europe as a whole.
