Veiling through the Arts
This chapter focuses on the portrayal of Muslim women and veiling in the arts. More specifically, it considers how Muslim artists from around the world are increasingly participating in contemporary debates about the veil by way of poetry, stand-up comedy, storytelling, painting, photography, and music. It examines a selection of poetic and artistic responses by Muslim women that illustrate the heterogeneous nature of voices and viewpoints on veiling, including a new type of poetry known as hijab poetry.
