This chapter provides an overview of Peru’s family planning, a persistent health and social issue in the country. First, it introduces the wide cast of actors and organizations that have played different roles in family planning. Then, it discusses mid-twentieth century family planning programs in various developing countries which led to socioeconomic development and increased health for women and children. Finally, it concludes that the writers of the history of family planning in Latin America should examine demographic transition theory, especially the role of biomedical technology as a factor for social change.
