Many truckers are openly racist towards African-Americans, Mexican immigrants, and those they perceive to be Islamic or Sikh. Truckers from these groups are understood to be desperate and willing to work for less, thus driving down freight rates for everyone else. Trucking corporations manipulate these attitudes to maximize their profit, but it is truckers individually who are labelled as bigots by the narrating class.
