Moore’s third year at Leonard was his most intense and final. During this year he received an award and was able to pass his final examinations a year early. It lays out the early history of obstetrics in North Carolina as well as some other subjects Moore would have encountered during his year at Leonard. It also introduces readers to John Henry Merrick, Moore’s lifelong friend. The chapter also details how medical licensing worked in North Carolina and what examinations looked like when Moore was taking them.
